Holistic Health & Healing During Covid19 for Suicide Prevention
This class begins with a presentation on Medicine Wheel Teachings and historical view, including Native American (NA) Elder perspective of Circle teachings. Kathleen Little Leaf shares her experiences and observations of Covid-19 from her Reservation, starting December 31st when the virus was announced in China, followed by the USA Pandemic Timeline and announcements from the World Health Organization and the CDC. Statistics from these organizations demonstrate the high prevalence of the virus on U.S. Reservations, along with reports of mental health, substance use, and suicidal ideation during COVID-19.
A recounting of past pandemics through the Native American lens underscores the fears Covid-19 triggered within Tribes. Behavioral health needs are detailed, highlighting the exponential increases of grief and loss in Indian Country.
The Adverse Childhood Experiences study is detailed, along with explanations of why it should be considered during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
